Day 30 July 19th – Prince George BC

After the long rides of the last two days today I am enjoying a rest day in Prince George and I’ll be here for the next few days. Colleen is flying in on Tuesday from Owen Sound, and Sonja will arrive from the Arctic on Wednesday.  We hope to get on the route to Prince Rupert on the 25th or 26th.  Until then I’m enjoying time with Sebastian, Dave, and their circle of people, and with the grand-dog Poppy.

I tried to contact groups, people and media today, but it seemed that everybody was gone or on holiday on a beautiful hot summer day.  Prince George has a very dry climate which makes the heat bearable, and it really was too nice to be working.

During the day Lee (another friend) and I talked about her research project on frontier culture, Canada’s replacement of historic identity with an identity based on geography, and its impact on First Nations in this area.  This evening we went to a pub, met some friends and had a relaxing time and some talk about flying helicopters (one friend just got his helicopter license and is so happy with his job).   We also talked about social services and work with youth as one friend works in children’s mental health and the other as a youth advocate.  The conversations will continue over the next days.
