“Slowly getting there – Vermilion to Elk Island National Park
I started at 6 AM as the west wind already blew strongly all night long. It was only about 10 c when I started and it just made it to low 20s.The winds went to 50 km/ h so I kept it easy. Blue skies and wide views over the rolling countryside were somewhat a reward for the strenuous peddaling.
At a truck stop I gave the witness the Change the Cycle business card and with a telling smile she said,”Great I’m working for that too”. She had been involved in events and fund raising events. There wasn’t much chance to talk further as she was working.
Later I went to a Tim Hortons in Vegreville a Ukraine village which has the biggest Ukrainian Easter egg in the world. As I left the Tim Hortons a man spoke to me. His partner had noticed on my jersey that I’m from Owen Sound which is where he had grown up. This was quite a surprise as not many Owen Sounders meet around here. Brian and Shelley invited me to stay at their place, 60 more km, which was the right distance for the day as reaching Edmonton would have meant biking till 11 PM in this crazy wind. We had a nice dinner and talked more about. Owen Sound but also about Change the Cycle. They found that there are hardly any movies or video games without violence which must negatively impact on kids.
