Elk Island National Park to Edmonton
Today was a short ride of 65 km to Edmonton where I stay with Pat and Danita, who are so kind to take me into their new home. Colleen met Pat at a training workshop on Elder Abuse in London a few weeks ago and Pat said that they could help out with a place to stay.
On the ride here I saw some Elk in the distance and a Bison having breakfast behind a high fence beside the Highway.
Edmonton and Sherwood Park are two cities that have sprawled la great deal and it took quite a long time to get around by bike. Unfortunately my emails stopped working, so that was difficult, but now I’m able to connect again. Fixing the email system, with Telus help, took much of the afternoon.
Great rain got me soaked.
By the way, the highways in Alberta are amazingly good – great surface and huge shoulders. Even with 4 lanes and the wide shoulders truckers try to keep as much distance to cyclists. Motorists frequently give encouraging beeps and signals. However the roads in Edmonton are full of gaping pot holes and deep puddles when it rains.
Here’s a picture east of Edmonton, with the sun out again.
